To our returning alumni and to prospective students:
Instituto Miguel de Cervantes has regretfully decided to suspend classes for this summer and fall.
The influenza epidemic in Mexico and students’ legitimate concerns for their health have affected
many Spanish-language schools throughout Mexico, and the Instituto is no exception. It is our hope
and belief that in several months, this perceived danger will have passed and we can get back to doing
what we do best -- providing an unequalled Spanish-immersion experience for our students in an unmatched
setting. The Instituto will reopen its doors on January 11, 2010.
In the meantime, we will use the next several months to renovate our website, review and update our
teaching materials, and generally recommit ourselves to providing the very best teaching experience
for our valued students. We will, of course, continue to answer all mail and to offer the best advice
we can as you plan ahead for language classes in 2010. And it’s not too soon to remind you that next year
will be an exciting time to be in Guanajuato. In 2010 Mexico will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of
its independence from Spain, and our own Guanajuato--the “Cradle of Mexican Independence”--will be at the
center of the celebration. If you’ve been thinking about studying Spanish and learning more about Mexico,
next year will be a wonderful time to do so. As you make your plans, please feel free to contact us at any time.
We look forward to greeting all our new and returning students in the new year with renewed enthusiasm. ¡Hasta pronto!

The
Instituto Miguel de Cervantes
in Guanajuato, founded in 1981, provides intensive language study
and a practical language-immersion experience for individuals and
groups. At the Institute, you will benefit from small classes, individualized
instruction, and our proven teaching methods. In addition, you can learn about Mexican history, literature,
latin dance and art. Optionally, if you are interested, we can also
offer Mexican cooking upon request.
We also offer
basic language programs for larger groups, as well as specialized
programs for professionals (Spanish for Teachers in Bilingual ESL
Classrooms, Spanish for Medical Personnel, Spanish for Social Workers,
Lawyers etc.).
The
Institute is located in the shadow of the historic Valenciana Mine
(still operating), one of the greatest silver mines in all of colonial
Latin America. Our physical facilities
are unmatched in Guanajuato, offering spectacular views of the city,
airy classrooms with natural light, tranquil flower gardens, meandering
walkways with fountains and natural benches, and numerous nooks
and crannies for contemplation or group discussion (in Spanish,
of course). Some courses can also be delivered downtown.

about Guanajuato and the Institute, we invite
