The Instituto Miguel de Cervantes is located in the historic Valenciana neighborhood, high above the city and directly behind the Valenciana Silver Mine. From the grounds of the school you can enjoy sweeping views of the mountains and the city below. We want the time you spend at the Instituto to be relaxing and educational, and we believe we have created an unmatched facility to provide that combination for our students, faculty, and staff.
Classrooms
Our classrooms are spacious, light, and airy. All are comfortably furnished, and most have balconies or adjacent terraces overlooking the city. We also classes in downtown locations.
School Grounds
The Instituto is surrounded by an outdoor maze of landscaping with flowering plants, stone paths, fountains, colonial archways, mature trees, and conversation nooks for individual or group study… or quiet contemplation. During days when the weather is absolutely irresistible, classes are often moved outside to some comfortable, shady place in the garden.
Library & Internet Access
Our main office also serves as a library with a growing collection of Spanish and English reading material for our students. It also has a computer center for students who’d like to check their email. There are also many internet cafes downtown that provide computers and internet access for a nominal fee.
Transportation
Travel To and From the Airport
If you choose the homestay accommodation for two weeks or more, transportation is included to and from the BajÃo (BJX) airport in León. For students renting an campus apartment or other accommodation, the cost for one-way service between the airport and Guanajuato is $50 U.S. dollars for a maximum of two people.
Travel to and From Your Classes
We provide daily transportation to and from the school for all our students. The Instituto’s free shuttle runs from the center of Guanajuato to Valenciana and back at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. In addition, an inexpensive local bus service is available. They run every half hour from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Taxi service is also available. Plus, there is a spectacular walking trail that begins at the Instituto and snakes its way down the adjacent hillside. It exits onto the road near the Hotel Parador San Javier. The walk down takes a leisurely 20 minutes. You might want to count on a little more time for the walk back up, or take the bus!
For Parents TraVelling With Young Kids
There is an elementary school next door called the Colegio Valenciana. If you are travelling with elementary school children and you’d like them to learn a little Spanish while you are here, you may be able to register them at the elementary school.
